Ŧobi Orisarayi was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. He spent his early years a songwriter, couture designer, and Junior Olympic shot-putter.
He holds a BA in Political Science from DePaul University and an MFA in Creative Writing from Columbia University. He is a Guest Commentator on TMZ (Live). He is an Executive Producer for indie film and theater. He teaches undergraduate Creative Writing at Columbia University as an Adjunct-Assistant Professor.
His fiction has been recognized by Tin House, PEN America, A Public Space, and The New Yorker, where editors described his prose
“fresh, funny, humane… definitely has that something.”
His debut novel-in-works, UNMASTERED, is a Künstlerroman that follows a group of artists who work in the music industry.
Most recently, he wrote, directed, and produced a pilot, CAPTAINESS.
He is the Executive Producer of ‘LINES’ a new play Off-Broadway.
